A diamond is one of the most personal purchases you will ever make — and one of the least transparent, unless someone shows you what actually matters. This guide walks you through everything we explain to clients in person: how diamonds are judged, how rings are built, and how to buy with total confidence.
Four qualities work together to determine a diamond's beauty and price. Knowing how they interact lets you put your budget where it shows.
The engine of sparkle — not the shape, but how precisely the facets are angled to return light. A superbly cut smaller stone will outshine a larger, lazily cut one. If you protect only one grade, protect this.
Graded from D (icy colourless) down the alphabet as warmth creeps in. Adjacent grades are nearly indistinguishable once a stone is set — which is exactly where smart value hides.
Nature leaves fingerprints inside most diamonds. Grades describe what's visible under 10× magnification — but the question that matters is what's visible to the eye.
Weight, not size. Prices leap at round numbers, so a 0.90 ct stone can look virtually identical to a 1.00 ct on the hand while costing meaningfully less.
Green chips are almost always eye-clean — no inclusions visible without magnification. Well-chosen SI stones often are too; we inspect every one before recommending it.
Shape is pure personality — there is no wrong answer, only the right one for the hand that wears it.
A serious stone deserves independent proof. Laboratories such as GIA and IGI grade diamonds against the same scales you've just read — cut, colour, clarity and carat — and issue a report with the stone's exact measurements, proportions and any laser inscription. We provide certification on qualifying stones and will happily walk you through a report line by line before you commit. If a seller anywhere hesitates to show paperwork, walk away.

The setting is the architecture of the ring — it decides how the stone sits, how much light reaches it, and how the piece feels day to day.
One stone, nothing to distract from it. The definitive engagement ring — timeless and endlessly re-settable.
A ring of smaller diamonds around the centre stone amplifies presence — the classic way to make a stone read a size larger.
The band itself is paved with tiny diamonds for edge-to-edge sparkle that flatters any centre stone.
Stones set flush inside a channel in the band — sleek, snag-free and ideal for active hands and wedding bands.
A metal rim wraps the stone completely. The most protective setting made — modern-looking and extremely secure.
Past, present and future in one ring. Side stones add width and let you mix shapes for a signature look.
Fingers change size with temperature, time of day and season — measure at day's end, at room temperature, when they're largest. A correctly sized ring slides on smoothly and resists slightly over the knuckle coming off. Between sizes? Take the larger for wide bands. We size in-store in minutes, and most rings can be adjusted after purchase.
16" sits at the collarbone; 18" is the everyday standard and the most-gifted length; 20–22" falls just below the collarbone — ideal for pendants; 24"+ reads bold and layers beautifully over clothing. When in doubt for a gift, 18" for her, 22" for him.
Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds — chemically, physically and optically identical to mined stones, and graded on the same scales. They typically cost far less, which buys a dramatically larger or finer stone for the same budget. Natural diamonds carry billion-year origins and stronger long-term value retention. Neither is "better": it is a values-and-budget decision. We stock and set both, always fully disclosed.

41.7% pure — the hardest-wearing and most affordable. Excellent for daily-wear chains and bracelets.
58.3% pure — the everyday sweet spot between durability and rich colour. Our most popular choice.
75% pure — the deepest, warmest colour for fine and heirloom pieces.
Denser, naturally white and hypoallergenic — the premium standard for engagement work.
Clean gently with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush. Keep diamonds away from chlorine and harsh chemicals, store pieces separately so stones don't scratch softer metals, and have settings checked once a year — we're glad to do it whenever you visit.
